FINANCIAL TIMES

We are very honoured to have been featured in the Financial Times in March alongside Fearon Hay, Patterson Associates and Herbst.

The article focuses on an architectural approach that embodies the essence of "New Zealand modernism"— architecture that emphasises harmony with the environment, thoughtful materiality, and refined simplicity.

AWATEA - ON SITE

For the past couple of years, we have been working on the heritage restoration, renovation, and extension of Awatea, a prominent, heritage-listed home in Remuera.

Awatea was designed by Roy Keith Binney in 1924. Historically, the home has been renovated and extended through several phases of long-term ownership, with a significant addition completed in the 1990s.

Stage 1 of this project is now on site, and demolition and house lifting are underway. In the background, we are consenting stage 2 - a garden room and connecting glazed roof while designing stage 3 - an extension to replace 1990s one with expansive views overlooking the Orakei Basin towards Rangitoto.

MCGREGOR HOUSE

Below is a selection of sketches from a residential project we are currently working on in Khandallah,  Wellington. Consent has been submitted and work is due to start on site in May.

The design intent for this project is to distil the architecture to only a few key moves. We have simplified the plan, removing unneccessary walls and joinery that complicated the space. The proposed design strives for a sense of spaciousness and visual clarity. Within the space, we are using beautiful 300mm wide timber floorboards that are run in special 4-5m lengths. This anchors the space and provides a warm, durable and beautiful surface. The timber floor is then paired with a soft white marble, discrete lighting and custom furniture designed by the client.
