PONSONBY HOUSE

Set within a leafy Ponsonby street, this project explores mass, light, and spatial clarity through a language of restraint. Elevated above the ground to mitigate flooding, the house is anchored by a base of raw concrete, while the upper volume is expressed in glass, timber, and softly plastered walls. Together, these elements establish a balance of solidity and lightness, permanence and repose.
Arrival is conceived as a measured sequence: compression through stair and narrow threshold, followed by release into a luminous upper level. Here, views are carefully drawn into the life of the house, never excessive, always deliberate. To the south, a mature oak tree becomes a constant presence, offering privacy from the street and allowing resting spaces to rise into its canopy.
The result is an architecture of composure and calm, where clarity of form and material sustains a lasting sense of intimacy with nature.
