Located at the end of a long driveway in suburban Auckland, St Heliers House is an extensive renovation of an existing dwelling, reworked to establish a sense of calm and order. The project focuses on the relationship between proportion, light, and material continuity, reducing the architecture to a series of carefully composed spaces. Externally, fine metal battens trace a consistent rhythm beneath a slender roofline, expressing precision and restraint. Inside, long ash floorboards, marble surfaces, and plastered walls form a cohesive palette of muted tones and soft tactility. Glazed openings extend the living spaces toward a single enclosed garden and pool, allowing the interior to breathe with the landscape. The result is a house that feels measured and enduring — a quiet setting for daily life where clarity, material refinement, and stillness define the atmosphere.
